The Fiber Traceability Initiative

Filippa K is proud to be part of the Fiber Traceability Initiative: a groundbreaking initiative that traces a garment’s wool from farm to finished product. We’re working with Axfoundation, GS1 Sweden and VirtualRouteZ to improve traceability in the wool industry and establish a transparent value chain

As part of Autumn/Winter 2024, we’ve introduced twelve Filippa K garments with a QR code powered by GS1 sewn into the label – by scanning, you’ll find the piece’s origins, design details, care tips, and possible second-life solutions.

In today’s wool industry, fibers are commonly traded in large batches on a global market. Traceability is often limited to just the country of origin and there is no guarantee or certification to ensure that the wool has been produced sustainably, and according to high animal welfare standards.

In 2023, more than ⅓ of the materials we worked with at Filippa K were animal fibers, so traceability from farm to garment is key for us in understanding their origins as well as environmental and social impacts. We’ve been working towards the FTI value chain since 2023, so that you can better understand the journey of your garments from the sheep’s wool to the piece hanging in your closet.

Fiber traceability Initiative products:

The QR code in each garment opens a window to its story. By scanning it with your phone, you’ll instantly find details from the farm where the wool was sourced to the hands that crafted it into the piece you love. Easy care advice follows, as well as suggestions for what to do with the garment when you’re finished owning it.

This is made possible because each step of the production is logged as it moves through the value chain. When someone in the process creates, receives, or sends an item, they scan a code that records this step. The scans capture information that builds a chain of custody, and this comprehensive trail forms the foundation for reliable traceability. All the information builds a complete is available to you when scanning the QR code.

We are thrilled to take this next step in the Fiber Traceability Initiative – giving the Filippa K community an opportunity to understand the story behind these wool garments. This is just the beginning of our collective progress, we look forward to growing the initiative and continuing our work with Axfoundation, GS1 Sweden and VirtualRouteZ.
